GHANA PREMIER LEAGUE WEEK 11 REPORT

GHANA PREMIER LEAGUE WEEK 11…REPORT

Week 11 of the Ghana Premier League brought with it the usual excitement and delight of watching the 'jogo bonito' of Ghana football.

7 matches kicked off across several centers with Accra Hearts of Oak picking up the team of the week accolade.

The Phobians put their derby defeat to Kotoko behind them to record a historic away win against Berekum Chelsea at the dreaded Golden City Park.

The hosts had not lost at home since December 30, 2012 and looked set for extending their 43 game unbeaten run until 2004 Ghana premier league top scorer Samuel Yeboah put Hearts of Oak ahead.

The goal proved the decider as Hearts recorded their 4th away win to keep intact their unbeaten status away from home this season (Hearts recorded wins in Tarkwa vs Medeama, Tema vs Inter Allies and at Obuasi vs AshGold).

The win was also the first for Hearts of Oak against Berekum Chelsea at the venue and their first there overall since 2008 and pushes the Phobians to the top of the League table once again after league leaders Wa All Stars were mangled 3-1 by Techiman City.

Ebenezer Agyapong, Stephen Manu and Issaka Ibrahim scored for the home side while Kelvin Andoh was on target for All Stars.

Andoh's goal was the first Techiman City had allowed at their home grounds (The Den) in their debut campaign in Ghana's top flight.

Elsewhere, Kotoko spiked ailing Ebusua Dwarfs by 3-0 at the Baba Yara Sports stadium.

The victory was made possible with a brace from Dauda Mohammed while winger Frank Sarfo Gyamfi also got one for Coach Michael Osei's side who are looking to put a dismal start to the season behind them and push further for the league title.

For Dwarfs, the defeat further condemned them to the bottom spot on the table and the pressure is expected to be intense on head coach JE Sarpong.

Another beleaguered coach Bashir Hayford failed to silence his critics after failing to win his 5th home game on the trot following a 0-0 draw with Bechem United.

This is certainly an unpleasant situation for the defending league champions and the writings on the wall indicate that Coach Bashir Hayford is a dead man walking.

At Dormaa, on-fire Yahaya Mohammed powered his self to the top of the scorer’s chart (his 9th goal this season) after his 2 goals aided Aduana Stars win 4-0 at home to Dreams FC.

Richard Mpong and Bright Adjei were the other scorers for the 2009 league champions who have certainly rediscovered their 'mojo' under Romanian trainer Cioaba Aritica.

The Giants from the West, Sekondi Hasaacas also won comfortably at home to New Edubiase FC.

An Ibrahim Suleiman brace alongside Eric Bekoe's goal was enough to hand Hasmal a 3-1 win with Prince Antwi scoring for the away side.

At Sogakope, the spoils were shared as WAFA failed to break down Inter Allies in a goalless draw.

Overall 15 goals were scored in 7 matches with one outstanding clash between Liberty Professionals and Medeama set to be played later.

Hearts of Oak remain the only away side to record a victory during week 11 while Kotoko, Aduana, Hasaacas and Techiman City ensured the trend of home teams always winning in the Ghana Premier league continued.
